Client Quote #13: ED Identity

Sometimes I will ask my patients, let’s pretend for a moment. Who would you be if you were someone who didn’t have this illness?

A lot of the times, I get an answer like this.

Sometimes staying with the familiar is easier even if it’s destroying us. Recovery, being well, being happy…it’s new. It’s unfamiliar and feels more frightening than keeping status quo.

When you’ve had ED for a long time, years and years, it can convince you that it is part of your identity.

Again, it’s lying. You’re more than the ED. You’re so much more 🔥🔥🔥
